Introduction

Before you can enter the Pit of Heresy Dungeon, you will need to complete the Shadowkeep campaign and begin the quest The Deepening Wake. This quest will require you to open a tier three chest from the Altars of Sorrow and kill 20 nightmares while doing so.

Once you complete this step, you should see the Dungeon available on the Moon Map. Before you load in, there are a few things you should know about this Dungeon.

You will not have to worry about your Power Level in the Pit of Heresy. The Power Level for this Dungeon is only 1600, so you should have no issues surpassing it.

The majority of engagements in this Dungeon are mid-to-close range, so plan your Loadout accordingly. Auto Rifles, Submachine Guns, and Pulse Rifles are all fine Primary weapons.

For your Special weapon, Witherhoard or Izinagi’s Burden are both fantastic in this Dungeon, as are any Shotguns. Witherhoard is best for ad-clearing, and Izinagi’s Burden is perfect for taking out mini-bosses.

For your Heavy weapon, Swords should do just fine in this Dungeon, though you could get by with just about anything in this slot.

A good Linear Fusion Rifle can give you the option of taking out difficult enemies at range when needed.

How to Complete the Pit of Heresy Dungeon

Once you begin the Dungeon and dive down into the Pit, you will be met with the first encounter. In this encounter, your goal is to find the three Hive Bosses and kill them.

Before you find the Bosses, you will see a series of towers that are built into the side of a cliff. Each Tower will have a floating green Hive symbol above it.

The three Bosses are hiding inside three separate towers. Your job is to find out which towers they are in.

To do this, you will first need to open up any one tower in the area. You will notice that there are enemies outside of each of the towers, along with a Pit Keeper.

The Pit Keeper is a Knight with an orange health bar. Killing it will open up the tower door.

Inside the tower, there will be an Accursed Swordbreaker mini-boss. Kill it and pick up the Hive Sword that it drops.

You will see three Hive symbols chained across two pillars in the back of the room. These are the symbols that correspond to the towers that the three Bosses are hiding in.

Now, head to any of the three towers that hide the Bosses, kill the Pit Keeper outside the tower, and you will find either a Wizard, a Knight, or a Shrieker Boss. These Bosses are immune to any type of damage unless it comes from the Hive Sword.

To kill the Knight Boss, use your Light Attack with the Sword. For the Wizard Boss, use your Heavy Attack.

The Shrieker will constantly fire projectiles at you. If you block with the Hive Sword, you can deflect these projectiles back at the Shriker and kill it.

Once all three Bosses have been found and killed, the large door in the middle of the encounter will open up, and you can head to the second encounter.

Tunnels of Despair

The next encounter will have you traverse a cave system while being chased by two very large, very invincible Ogres. Your goal is to unlock the three gates on the far side of the tunnel.

To unlock the three gates, you will need to find the Heretical Knights and kill them. Doing so will drop a purple orb that you then dunk into the podiums near the gates to open them.

The Heretical Knights can be found in the inner tunnels of the encounter. The opening to these inner tunnels is blocked off by small, destructible red walls.

Once inside the inner tunnels, look for enemies on your radar and head towards them. Clear out the room and pick up the purple orb dropped by the Heretical Knight.

Take the orb to one of the three gates and dunk it. You will need to try and avoid the large Ogres during this part so use the inner tunnels to your advantage.

The three gates are located on the opposite side of the encounter from where you entered. There will be one on the left, one in the middle, and one on the right side of the far wall.

Dunk one orb into each of the gates, and you will be on to the third encounter.

Chamber of Suffering

During this encounter, you will need to keep at least one player on the Annihilator Totem plate at all times to keep from wiping. It is best to have two players on the plate as this encounter involves a lot of ad-clearing.

You will see three other platforms in the room as well on the left, middle, and right sides of the encounter. These are the spawn points for the Heretical Knights.

Your goal is to kill the Heretical Knights and dunk their orbs on the podium next to the Annihilator Totem. You will need a total of six purple orbs.

This encounter focuses on staying alive until the Knights have spawned, so it is a good idea to bring as much healing as possible. You will also want to take out the Hive Boomer Knights that spawn from the upper pockets in the room to make life much easier for you and your team.

After dunking your sixth orb, shoot the large orange wall to open it up and head to the next area.

The Harrow

After dropping down further into the Pit, you will be met with yet another three Hive symbols. Remember these symbols.

Traverse the platforming section until you find the area containing one of these three symbols. Here, you should find a Wizard mini-boss. Killing all three Wizards will unlock the door at the end of the platforming section.

It is a good idea to keep an eye on your radar and head towards any enemies that you see, as they will usually lead you towards one of the three mini-bosses.

Opening the door will lead you to the final encounter of this Dungeon.

Zulmak, Instrument of Torment

The final Boss is a large Hive Knight that stands in the middle of three towers. Each tower will spawn one of the three mini-bosses from the first encounter of the Dungeon.

You will need to kill all three bosses and dunk the purple orbs into the podiums near the Boss to begin the damage phase.

Just like the first encounter, you will find Accursed Swordbreakers scattered about during the Boss fight. Kill them and pick up their Hive swords to deal with the mini-bosses.

The same rules apply to the mini-bosses as they did in the first encounter. Make sure you are using the correct sword attack to damage them.

After dunking all three orbs, you will begin the damage phase. A circle of green flames will appear around the center platform.

You can only deal damage to the Boss if they are standing inside of the circle. If you do not kill the Boss soon enough, he will stick his sword into the ground and begin the wipe mechanic.

When this happens, be sure to get out of the circle of flames before the Boss pulls his sword out of the ground, or else you and anyone else inside of the circle will die.

The mini-bosses will now respawn, and you will have to repeat the process to get another damage phase. With a well-equipped Fireteam, you should be able to take out this Boss with only one or two damage phases.

Finish off the Boss and claim your loot from the chest. You have just completed your first run of the Pit of Heresy Dungeon!

I hope this guide helped you through your first time in the Pit of Heresy Dungeon!
