The Caldwell Police Department (CPD) is mourning the loss of retired K-9 Arlo.

According to a Facebook post, Arlo came to CPD in 2016. He was adopted from the Animal Shelter of Wood River Valley when he was 15 months old and began training as a narcotics detection dog.

After becoming certified as a narcotics detection dog, Arlo started his career with Corporal Jared George at the Wilder Police Department. They worked as partners for about a year before they came to CPD.

K-9 Arlo assisted with hundreds of cases during his career and has visited too many schools to count. He was deployed over 655 times and recovered over 243 items of drug paraphernalia. Throughout his career, Arlo's alerts resulted in many arrests and subsequent convictions.

Arlo retired when he was 10 this past December and continued to live with his handler/family.

Arlo's handler would like to thank Viking Veterinary Care for caring for Arlo and the family as he passed.
