Black Cleaver is getting some changes in Patch 14.4.
League of Legends Season 14 has been pretty interesting so far. In contrast to the previous season, this season got off to a great start. It all started with the big preseason update, major preseason update, which introduced tons of new and exciting changes to the game. The update included a variety of changes, including map changes and new Void Grubs, as well as the updated Baron Nashor.
However, the most exciting aspect of the season was the Items. Riot finally removed the awful Mythic item system and went back to the old one. The change led to a lot of new items being added to the game. Moreover, Riot removed some problematic items, such as Duskblade of Draktharr, Prowler’s Claw, and Galeforce.
Although the item adjustments were generally successful, there were some issues. Mage items were overturned, but Armor Penetration items remained inadequate. Though Riot did fix the Mage items last three patches, the armor penetration still remains weak.
This is why Riot intends to improve the penetration items in the upcoming patch. Both Terminus and Black Cleaver are getting some changes in the patch. But in this article, we will mainly focus on the Black Cleaver changes and how they would affect the game.

Patch 14.4 Black Cleaver Changes
- Armor Shred per stack increased from 4% to 5%
- Number of stacks reduced from 6 to 5
- Total armor shred up from 24% to 25%
Black Cleaver is getting some nice quality-of-life changes. The item is getting armor shred per stack increased, and the number of stacks required is going down. Additionally, Its armor penetration is also going up slightly.
Compared to other Armor Penetration items, Black Cleaver was pretty weak. But with the buffs, it should make it comparable to them.
Release Date
The aforementioned Black Cleaver changes are coming out in Patch 14.4, which is scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2024.
